The United Nations (UN) is an association of independent countries that agreed to work together to prevent and end wars. The UN also attempts to improve social conditions by promoting international cooperation, economic development, public health, environmental conservation, and human rights. Members of the UN are supposed to cooperate peacefully and resolve differences diplomatically.

The UN also provides a forum for its members to express their views in the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, and other bodies and committees. By enabling dialogue between its members, and by hosting negotiations, the Organization has become a mechanism for governments to find areas of agreement and solve problems together.

Indian Poetry

A Self-composed poem  by Shreeja Saxena

If I was,
A unique one,
A weird one?
WHO WAS I???
I was happy ,

I was  able,
But still I was different
G
WHO WAS I???

I was a person,
A human with no eyes and ears
WAS I different?
WHO WAS I???

See this presentation to find some answers to your questions!

Palacio wrote Wonder after an incident in which she and her three-year-old son were waiting in line to buy ice cream. Her son descarga (4)noticed a girl with a severe facial deformity and started to cry.

Would you like to listen to one chapter?

Can you imagine how Auggie feels?

 What is inside his mind?

Accesible places.A tour around the towns

Most of the students and teachers in the project are assessing the places were they live. In this post we will go around Adrogué in Buenos Aires, Texas and Irvington in New York.

IRVINGTON in USA

If you click Wheelchair accessible or not_  you will be able to solve a quiz  about accessibility!

Accessibility is a CIVIL RIGHT

But… what happens when someone doesn’t respect this right?

Let´s reflect upon this situation:

A driver is very disrespectful and parks his car in a ramp. A group of people paste lots of post-its so that he can reflect upon his action.

The Mario Chronicles. (India)

A group of students in India in Ms Kamal´s class have been reflecting about Mario´s situation after the accident shown in the video.

Do you agree with their thoughts?

If you pay attention  to the video you will be able to hear a beautiful  background song.

This song is credited to Lanny Sherwin and it is called “Everyone Is Different”

Everyone Is Different
(By Lanny Sherwin)

Verse 1: We’re all different colors, we wear different clothes,
We speak differently from different zip codes.
We’re short, we’re tall, we’re fat, we’re thin,
We’re square pegs in round holes just trying to fit in.

Chorus: Everyone is different, it’s really no big thing,
It’s the differences between us that make life interesting.
Those little quirks that make us work are Heaven-sent,
So give a little thanks
That we’re all different.

Verse 2: We’re wise, we’re weird, we’re cool, we’re geeks,
We’re pieces of a puzzle – strangely unique.
But put us together and what do you see?
The world is our home, and we’re one big family.

Chorus: Everyone is different, it’s really no big thing,
It’s the differences between us that make life interesting.
Those little quirks that make us work are Heaven-sent,
So give a little thanks
That we’re all different.

Developing an Empathetic Perspective ( New York)

Students in Ms Susan´s class have been reflecting about the role of empathy, how important it is to help and consider each and every person!

What If ….a child with disabilities comes to your classroom?

We are all differently able empathy poster.JPG

Offering our friends friendly environments is a way to show them that we care and we want everybody to feel comfortable.

The students in this class observe and assess their houses and reflect upon all the difficulties that somebody using a wheel chair may face in their homes.

Now think of your house and make a lists of all the changes you would make to turn it into a wheel-chair friendly home

This boy has created a simulator to feel what it might be like to have hearing loss. Going through this experience has helped students to develop EMPATHY!
